Ayo Holistic is a marriage of my life philosophy of fostering personal spiritual, mental and physical wellness as well as connecting with those around us by receiving and giving joy.
In 2012, I took my first trip to Nigeria to meet my mother-in-law, Deaconess Hilda Omobolanle Onayiga. We had yet to meet in person and I was excited and nervous. I arrived in Abuja and my mother-in-law greeted me with song and dance as well as open arms. After spending a few days together, she, gave me a Yoruba name, Ayomikun – my joy is full. I was touched by the gesture; however, the full significance of this exchange as well as the beauty of the name given to me came later as I continued to reflect on my trip.
In 2007, my mother-in-law founded a grade school in Karu, Abuja where she is lovingly referred to as Mummy Daycare. The grade school continues to grow year to year, a testament to her strong entrepreneurial skills. She is a strong believer in entrepreneurship and always encouraged her children to do the same. Thinking back if anything she was a mirror. She greeted me with song and dance as well as open arms. She was pure joy!
"Mapou mouri, kabrit manje fey li"
When the Mapou tree dies, goats eat its leaves.
This Haitian proverb talks about the cycle of life. A tree dies but leaves behind nourishment for the animal. Proverbs are used as guides and this particular proverb acknowledges the impact of our ancestors and reminds us that they are always with us in spirit.
